Friday Book Blogging

This week's pick is Gene Wilder's fiction debut, My French Whore. Set during WWI, the main character relates a poignant story of true love between an unlikely American doughboy and a victimized Frenchwoman. Despite the setting and the characters' flaws, the wit sparkles.
This book reads quickly. It's a short story more than a novel and a simple read at that. You almost get the sense that you're reading a bedtime story, but for the adult nature of the tale. But in its miniature, it's a jewel. Charming, touching and just a bit sly, this book out-shined the seven others I tackled this week.
