A short word about shoes.
Here and in Iraq all the buzz is about shoes. The hurling of shoes as a sign of disrespect. According to the AP, "throwing shoes at someone is a sign of deep contempt." (One would think that throwing anything at someone is a sign of contempt.)
However the specific of shoes strikes me as particularly patriarchal primarily because (and don't hate me for being sexist, here) I can't imagine a woman tossing a perfectly good pair of shoes at someone to show discontent. Or maybe it's just me.

I would think that a woman (or a man for that matter) hurling a perfectly good pair of shoes would be the sign of ultimate disrespect. Anyone can throw a pair of shoes that they don't want but you've got to have some pretty strong feelings if you're going to throw a nice pair.
I have to shift the emphasis onto what a complete pratt that Iraqi idiot was to "throw" anything. I am not writing as a proponent of George Bush, rather as an individual who has worked in the field of Electronic News Gathering.
That moron is an example of a "Journalist???"
I am confronted by the idea that everyone thinks that incident was hilarious and I think is was nothing more than an example of stupidity in it's grandest form.
I can't see any humour in it, and usually I am the first chap to toss out an onion. This time, I am too sad at the turn of events to get the joke.
(Although I also feel compelled to mention that I have been struck on the head by many pairs of women's shoes. Hell hath no fury...)
