On this day in 1805 an infant U.S. Marine Corps fought in its very first foreign war against the pirates who plundered along the Barbary Coast, which was the North coast of Africa. You may know the words to the Marine Corps hymn. Did you know that "the shores of Tripoli" refer to this military victory?
Now you've learned something of the Barbary pirates, the martial history of the United States, and you have the tune to the Marine Corps hymn repeating itself in your head.

My work here is through.
