Two of the largest volcanic eruptions in recorded history occured in Indonesia. One in 1883 called Krakatau created a shockwave that circled the earth seven times. The sound of the explosion was heard 3000 miles away.
As awful as that sounds, the eruption of Tambora in 1815 was four times larger. The 38 cubic miles of ash and pumice ejected into the atmosphere in April 1815 by this (at the time) 14,100 ft. volcano caused the Year Without a Summer. ("You ruined summer!")
Right now Mount Sinabung (not to be confused with Cinnabon) on the Indonesian island of Sumatra is rumbling and belching smoke. You would think people would be more concerned.
