Grey-headed woodpeckers

Juvenile red-headed woodpeckers have charcoal-colored heads, as do red-bellied woodpeckers. And juvenile cardinals have black beaks.
I know this because all three "teenagers" have been at my feeder. Also seen, but not at the front-yard feeder, a female oriole which is more yellow than orange (and a dull yellow at that) and many gorgeous goldfinches. The goldfinches visit every year as I've mentioned before, but this year my neighbor has a thistle feeder and we are competing for their attentions. I hope she runs out of thistle, because I'm not running out of coneflowers any time soon. Ha.
