Friday Book Blogging

This Friday's book is an oldie that was re-issued thanks to Hollywood. I really enjoyed Winifred Watson's Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. It's witty and sharp, gently poking fun of Victorian morals without being nasty.
Miss Pettigrew, a staunchly upright failed governess finds herself at the end of her rope and at the mercy of a young starlet of dubious morals. As the title suggests, the entire story takes place over one twenty-four hour period; twenty-four hours that change the characters' lives forever. I particularly liked the internal struggle Miss Pettigrew fought throughout the day. And the way she tackled problems completely out of her depth. I'd even be willing to try the movie, which is a pretty big endorsement. (The only movie I've ever enjoyed as much as the book is "Chocolat," but that's most likely due to Johnny Depp.)
For those of you who remember grade-school reading, this is the adult version of Amelia Bedelia. But while Miss Pettigrew is not dusting the furniture and drawing the drapes, everything does happen to come out right in the end.

Have you tried putting a picture of Johnny Depp on top of your TV?

Yes, I call it Depp-O-Vision (patent pending).
